Laure de Preux speaking on stage at a World Economic Forum event

Side projects where I have worked with my community to make sure health and environmental impacts are properly valued.

Jameel Institute Symposium (2023)

In November 2023 I spoke at the Jameel Institute Symposium at Imperial College London, How to reduce the impact of climate change on health, which brought together researchers and policymakers to find interventions that protect population health from a changing climate.

Campaign against the tallest building in Kensington (2018–2019)

Speaking for the opponents at the City Hall hearing before the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan (2019).

In September 2018 I presented the health and environmental impacts of the proposed tower on the Holiday Inn site to the RBKC Planning Decision Committee, which rejected the project. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, then took over the decision, and in 2019 I represented the opponents at City Hall. A judicial review later succeeded and the High Court quashed the permission.

Environmental exposure and inequalities (2019)

Coverage in the Evening Standard, The Telegraph, The Times and the Daily Mail, and a BBC interview. With my team I also built a public-facing StoryMap.

World Economic Forum, Tianjin (2018)

With two Imperial colleagues I presented an IdeasLab session on air pollution at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions. I explained why the “hidden” health costs of air pollution need to be measured: without them, cutting traffic looks like a large cost with little saving, and the case for cleaner air is hard to make.
